Humans of Dragon Boat - Blog

"The goal of Humans of Dragon Boat is to connect and unite the global dragon boat community.

To that end, we feature people from all nations and creeds, all ages and races, and all levels of dragon boat experience.

We aim to highlight the incredible diversity of dragon boat athletes around the globe by sharing their stories."

Overview

As a lesser-known sport, dragon boat does not have many pages on social media that publish high-quality, curated, original content that people actually care about. In 2018, I decided to change that.

In 2018, I started this blog to show off the amazing diversity of the dragon boat world—in geography, ability, age, gender, professional career, athleticism, life experience, medical history, race, creed—something not many other sports can boast.

Performance

This blog stands out as one of the most popular dragon boat Instagram accounts in history, beating out even our official global governing body, the International Dragon Boat Federation, in all metrics.

In just 2 years, we amassed more than 4.5k followers on social and garnered 1 million+ impressions. Most posts are organic, but a handful of paid posts generated 60k impressions on average with a CPM of $0.49.

Responsibilities

One of the most important aspects of my running this international blog is copyediting and/or translating athlete write-ups from all over the world, as they are submitted in varying levels of English fluency or in other languages.

I intake those essays, clean up grammar and spelling, cut them down to meet character limits, and edit to ensure clarity—while not losing each athlete's unique voice.
